Adult Partial Hospitalization Program

Patients who have completed an inpatient program are often stepped down into PHP. Here, mental health issues are addressed by teaching patients new, healthy coping skills and behaviors. This gives them the opportunity to apply these tools within their own environments as they transition back to their homes, work and social lives.

Del Amo Behavioral Health System Adult Partial Hospitalization Program

Del Amo Behavioral Health System’s PHP allows patients to get the mental health treatment they need, while allowing them to go back home to their families after each session. Our outpatient facility, located in Greater Los Angeles, California, features mental health professionals that are here to help guide patients through psychiatric outpatient care.

Some patients may enter treatment directly through PHP rather than stepping down from an inpatient program. They may be experiencing difficulty coping with stressors in everyday life or other mental health issues. This program is for them as well.

PHP operates Monday thru Friday from 9:00am – 1:10pm, offering:

  • Psychiatrist sessions
  • Psychotherapy groups
  • Coping skills
  • Medication management
  • Drug and alcohol education
  • Music, recreational and leisure therapy
  • Case management
  • Discharge planning

Group topics include:

  • Life transitions
  • Codependency
  • Relational improvement
  • Anxiety and stress reduction
  • Nonviolent communication
  • Goal setting
  • Relapse prevention
  • Grief and loss
  • Coping strategies
  • Setting limits

What is a Partial Hospitalization Program?

A Partial Hospitalization Program is a full-time day program that provides many of the same treatments and therapies as an inpatient program with more freedom. Each participant within the program will work with the treatment team to develop an individualized treatment plan and goals that will improve quality of life and aid in symptom reduction.

Individuals attend treatment in the day and then return home in the evening. This allows you to receive much needed behavioral health treatment while not sacrificing familial and community responsibilities.

PHP and the Continuum of Care

Mental health treatment at an outpatient center is not one-size-fits all, and we understand that. You are a unique person who needs outpatient services specific to your needs.

But how do you know if PHP is the right type of mental health outpatient program for you?

A partial hospitalization outpatient treatment program is best for treating mental illness in individuals who are either stepping down from residential treatment or entering treatment and need more structure than an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).

For those stepping down from residential treatment for anxiety disorders, depression or other mental health conditions, a PHP is a great way to continue to receive treatment and readjust slowly using the skills you learned during your inpatient stay.

Studies show that the longer an individual remains connected to their support groups through the Continuum of Care, the less likely they are to relapse in the future. If you are stepping down from an inpatient treatment center, it may be a good idea to enter a PHP as part of your treatment plan.

For those entering treatment for the first time, a PHP allows for individuals to see mental health professionals and receive many of the same mental health services as an inpatient stay with the added benefit of returning home at the end of the day.
